Obituary
Dorothy A. "Dot" Quackenbush, age 67, a longtime resident of 15 Johnson Ave., passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at Albany Medical Center, with her loved ones by her side.

Dot was born March 13, 1937 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Harry and Susan (Keblish) Hardish. She was a graduate of Herkimer High School and the Utica School of Commerce. She was united in marriage to Richard L. "Dick" Quackenbush on March 2, 1957 at the Methodist Church, Herkimer, with the Rev. Fred Cotnam, officiating. The couple enjoyed a blessed and loving union of 47 years.

Dot was secretary in the family business, "Quackenbush Auto Parts and Electric, Inc.," of Herkimer. For many years Dot and Dick served the residents of the Mohawk Valley by providing personalized service and quality merchandise to their customers. At one time she was employed in the purchasing department at Standard Furniture, and in her earlier years she worked at the Boy Scout office in Herkimer.

A beloved wife, mother, and homemaker, she truly enjoyed the times spent with family and friends, especially treasuring the memories of times spent with Irv and Monica Peters and their families. Dot enjoyed cooking, gardening, and working with crafts in her leisure time. She loved her home in Mohawk and at Canadarago Lake.

Survivors include her beloved husband, Richard L. "Dick" Quackenbush, at home; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Susan Quackenbush of Rochester; several cousins, Kay and Paul Sokol, Vera Keblish, Elaine Farley and her husband, Jim, Ron Schoonmaker and Laura, Tom and Marilyn Schoonmaker, Julie Firlet, Mitch and MaryJane Klus; her dear friends and neighbors in Mohawk and at the lake, especially Irv and Monica Peters and Connie Engert.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Marguerite Quackenbush.

Dot's funeral service will be held Friday, February 4, commencing at 7 p.m. at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Father James Jadick, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, will take place in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Family and friends are invited to visitation Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, Ilion.

In lieu of floral offerings, please consider memorials in Dot's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
