Fort Herkimer: Mrs. Dorothy B. (Metott) Hellings-Gregory, 83, of Fort Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. Dorothy was born on April 1, 1926 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Samuel and Marguerite (Callahan) Metott. She was a graduate of St. Mary?s Academy, Little Falls, and then went on to attend and graduate from West Jersey Hospital Nursing School, Camden, NJ. Mrs. Gregory was a Registered Nurse and was the owner-operator of Three Maples Rest Home, Route 5S, in Fort Herkimer, for 32 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps. and St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Herkimer. Dorothy was married to Frederick T. Hellings, who passed away in October 1993, and is survived by her husband: Russell Gregory; sons: Lawrence Hellings and his wife Lois of OH, and Thomas Hellings and his wife Patricia of Mohawk; granddaughters: Wendy, Mary, Lisa, Laurie, and Lauren; six great-grandchildren; a sister: Marlene Spacapan and her husband Frank of Mohawk; a brother: Timothy Metott of Herkimer; good friends: Carolyn Goodhines, and Dan and Christin Gullis; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers: Edwin and Robert Metott. Dorothy enjoyed her vacations on Cape Cod, the Lawrence Welk Show, and puzzles. She loved cooking and running the rest home, making a difference in many, many people?s lives. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, between Ilion and Frankfort, on Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Her funeral will commence on Monday, February 8, 2010 at 8:15 AM with prayer at the funeral home, followed by her Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM at St. Francis de Sales Church, N. Bellinger Street, Herkimer. Dorothy will be laid to rest in the spring in Lee State Road Cemetery, Lee, NY.
