Doris H. Brown

August 16, 1931 — January 31, 2025

MOHAWK VALLEY – Mrs. Doris Harriet Brown, who currently resided with her daughter in Trumansburg, New York, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Ithaca, New York. Doris lived most of her life in the Mohawk Valley, prior to moving to Tompkins County in 2012. We are forever grateful for the 93 years that she had on this earth, knowing that she is at peace with those who have gone before us as they get to share eternity with her.

Doris was born on August 16, 1931, in West Winfield, New York, a daughter of the late Frank and Gladys (Franklin) Mead. She attended Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Herkimer, and through the years worked with Cordeen Manufacturing as a department supervisor, and then Nichols Department store as assistant manager. Doris spent many moments volunteering with Food Banks and Community Co-Op. She was a talented seamstress working specifically with alterations and wedding gowns.

Doris was a loving mother and grandmother and a beautiful soul who would help anyone. Her radiant smile lit up any room she entered. She loved country music and dancing. She lived life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with her family. Her love for her Grandkids was unwavering. She made sure not to miss sending a birthday card and was so proud of the young children as she enjoyed sitting through Soccer, Basketball, Football games, dance recitals, and school concerts – cheering them on.

Her loving family members that preceded her in death include, her husband whom she married August 31, 1985, Robert Brown, her sons, Rodney (as well as his wife, Connie) and Jeffrey Shaut and their father, Ralph L. Shaut, great-grandson, Tracey Shaut, and her siblings, John, Earl, Franklin, Joseph, Ralph, Cal, Shirley, Nellie, and Hazel of the Mead family.

The beloved surviving family of Doris includes her children, Dennis and Becky Shaut of Herkimer, Gale Miller, of Trumansburg, and daughter-in-law Tami Shaut. Her grandchildren, Jackie, Jodi, Dennis, Jr., Becca, Chad, and Corey. Her great-grandchildren, Chase, Megan, Lucas, Kyle, Morgan, Hunter, Anthony, Keanu, Oliver, Hazel, Dylan, and CJ, and one great-great grandchild on the way.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 8th, 2025, at 11:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, New York with Rev.
