ILION - It was finally time to leave. After many years of happiness, with much love and some sadness, Donald E. Hall passed away, on September 2, 2023.

Don was born in the Town of Frankfort, on September 30, 1927, to the late Arthur Hall and Florence Hall.

He leaves his wife, Alice Dayton Hall, of 69 years of marriage; and his four children, Donald W. Hall and his wife, Sheri, of Ilion, NY, Darcy Nichols, of Dunnellon, FL, Lora D. Hall, of Clackamas, OR, and D. Eric Hall and his wife, Carol, of Mohawk, NY.

Don attended Ilion Central Schools, grades K-12, graduating from Ilion High School in 1946. While in school Don was active in baseball, football and basketball. Upon graduation from high school Don was employed by Remington Rand until July 1948 when he enlisted in the US Navy. He served over 4 years during the Korean War seeing duty in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and the Pacific. Upon his release from the US Navy in 1952, Don was again employed by the Remington Company. During his working years, Don served as Executive Director of the Herkimer County Area Development Corporation, Executive Director of the Ilion Urban Renewal Agency, Superintendent of the Ilion Cemetery Association, News Director for WALY Radio, Prudential Insurance Agent and retired from the Remington Arms Company, in 1994.

Don was also active in the Village of Ilion Governmental Affairs, serving as Trustee and Mayor from 1962-1965.

Don leaves the following grandchildren: Eric W. Hall and his wife, Christina, of Mohawk, NY, Shelly Hall (Boniforti) and her husband, Chris, of Wellington, FL, Adam Hall and his wife, Bobbi, of Cotopaxi, CO, Mathew Hall, Ricky Singer, and Samantha Harvey, Kasey Joe Hall, of Crackamas, OR, and Jackson Hall and Lily Hall, of Mohawk, NY. Don also leaves 6 great-grandchildren: Maxwell, Gracie and Ally MaryAnn Hall, of Mohawk, NY, Nathan Boniforti, of Wellington, FL, and Jacob and River Hall, of Cotopaxi, CO; as well as several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with Don’s wishes, there are no scheduled visitation or public services. A private Cemetery Service will be held at the convenience of the immediate family.

His funeral arrangements and wishes were prearranged by Don Hall, with his Family Funeral Director and friend, Don Applegate, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, NY (315-895-7722).
