Mr. Dominick A. Conte, 82, a native of Frankfort, and a longtime Mohawk resident, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday morning, Jan. 9, 2004, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. At the time of his passing, his beloved wife, Doris (Irish) Conte, was at his side. Mr. Conte was born April 16, 1921, in Schuyler, a son of the late Michael and Modesta (Pandolf) Conte and was educated in Frankfort-Schuyler schools. He spent his childhood years in Frankfort and has resided in Mohawk for over 50 years. March 15, 1952, marked the beginning of a union of 51 years that was filled with love and dedication when Dominick was united in marriage with the former Doris Irish. They were married in the United Methodist Church in Mohawk. Dominick served his country in World War II with the United States Army. He was last employed with UNIVAC, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the New Life Ministries Church, Herkimer. Dominick enjoyed playing in the Ilion Firemen's Band and was the band manager for the Frankfort Veteran's Band. A dedicated family man, he went above and beyond for his wife, children and especially for his grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife, Doris of Mohawk; a son, Raymond Conte and wife Lee-Ann Sanborn of Minnetonka, Minn.; a daughter, Cheryl Karpowich and husband Donald of Ilion; two brothers Michael Conte and wife Joan of Ilion and Frank Conte and wife Rayda of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Cora Simonette of Ilion, Rose Fenton of Ilion and Margaret Consiglio and husband Dan of Rome; three beloved and special grandchildren, Brian and Paul Ferguson and Alexandra Smithers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, including two special nieces, Sharon Richer of Mohawk and Patricia Zylinsky of Jordanville. He was predeceased by three brothers, Louis Conte, Sam Conte and Joseph Conte and two sisters, Philomena "Fanny" Scamardo and Mary Skelly. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street, between Frankfort and Ilion (894-8000) on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Dominick's funeral will commence at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, from the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Mahoney, pastor of New Hope Ministries, King Street, Herkimer, officiating. He will be laid to rest this spring at a time to be announced.
