Deonne S. Carey

June 7, 1948 — February 13, 2026

Sauquoit, New York

SAUQUOIT – Mrs. Deonne S. Carey, lovingly known to many as mom, grandma, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. On this day, she was reunited in Heaven with the love of her life, her beloved husband, Robert E. Carey Sr., who preceded her in death this past December.

Born on June 7, 1948, in Sauquoit, New York, Deonne was the daughter of the late Clayton and Esther Hyman Baker. A proud lifelong resident of Sauquoit, she graduated from Sauquoit and remained deeply rooted in the community she loved.

In 1966 she married her soulmate, Robert, beginning a beautiful marriage filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together they created a lifetime of memories, especially on their many road trips and cruises throughout the decades. Florida and Disney World were amongst her favorite destinations.

Deonne dedicated many years of service as an office manager for United Cerebral Palsy before she retired. She carried the same dedication and care into every area of her life.

She was a devoted member of the Sauquoit Valley United Methodist Church, where she faithfully sang in the choir and formed lifelong friendships, including a special bond with Pastor Carl and his wife Nancy. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life. She enjoyed sharing the love of her church with her family members as often as possible.

Deonne loved swimming in her pool, playing cards with friends and family, and having sleepovers with all the kids, always making sure there were plenty of snacks for everyone. She had a knack for snowmobiling and especially enjoyed shopping — she could happily spend an entire day browsing at Boscov’s if you'd let her. Deonne had a stubborn streak that those who loved her knew well — once her mind was made up, there was no changing it. She found great joy in baking Christmas cookies for family and friends and never turned down an opportunity to go out to eat, especially if it meant a visit to her favorite place, McDonald’s.

She is survived by her son, Robert E. Carey Jr. and his wife Jayden; her treasured grandchildren Chelsey Carey and her fiancé Tyler; Natalia, Madalyn, and Anthony; and her great grandchild Emily Ammermann. She is also survived by her niece Kristie Addington and her children Nathan Dunn and Kori Dillenbeck; her nephew Adam Addington (Cheyenne) and his children Avry Addington and Brynlee Addington and many in-laws she was so grateful to have in her life.

In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Sheri Baker Addington; and her brother, Reginald Baker.

Deonne will be remembered for her love of family and faith, her strong will (once her mind was made up, that was that!), and the way she made life sweeter — especially at Christmas time with her famous cookies. She filled every room with warmth, laughter, and just a little bit of ‘sass’. While her family will miss her more than words can say, we find comfort in knowing she's reunited with her beloved husband — likely already settled in, watching Gunsmoke together in Heaven and catching up on everything they’ve missed. Her love, traditions, and unforgettable spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services are private and her family has made all arrangements with their friends at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road in Ilion, New York. Her obituary may be viewed on the funeral home website by visiting www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.
