MOHAWK-ILION – David F. Urtz, age 84, of Catherine St., Mohawk, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.

He was born on November 30, 1937, in Ilion, the son of Clarence and Bertha (Shutts) Urtz and attended Ilion schools. On September 1, 1972, he was married to Jane Steele. David worked as an auto mechanic, at Holt Bros., for over 30 years. He was an avid pistol shooter and enthusiastic outdoorsman. David was a member of the NYS Champion Pistol Team and a member of the NRA. He loved and enjoyed his camp, on Beaver River.

Surviving family members include his wife, Jane; his stepson, Jeffrey Crutcher and his wife, Susan, of Poughkeepsie; his grandson, James Crutcher, of Whispering Pines, NC; his great-granddaughter, Sierra; his sister, Lorraine (Urtz) Covell, of Ilion; his brother, Don Urtz and his wife, Joyce, of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his son, David, in 1979.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 22, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, NY.

Funeral Services will be held immediately following visitation, at 12 noon, at the funeral home, with Father Paul Catena, officiating. Burial will follow, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort.

David’s service arrangements and supervision are entrusted to family friend and Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
