David Leonard Lamica

ILION – David Leonard Lamica, age 90, of Fitzer Drive, Ilion, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, July 2, 2024. His passing occurred in the privacy and comfort of his home.

Born on January 8, 1934, in Malone, NY, David was the son of the late Ovila G. and Ida Mae (Spinner) Lamica. He was raised and educated in Malone, graduating from the Franklin Academy in 1952.

Upon completion of his schooling, David enlisted in the United States Army Reserve on October 13, 1953, with the 815th Station Hospital. He proudly served his country for eight years, receiving his honorable discharge on September 30, 1961.

At one time, David shared in a marriage with the late Esther (Disotelle) Viparina, a relationship from which came the blessing of his three children. Later in life, David remarried the former Lola (Mullen) Seymour and they shared in a thirty year relationship. Lola passed away on January 21, 2012.

More recently, David was blessed with the love and companionship of Norma (Halse) Skinner. They were high school classmates who were reunited after sixty years and together they shared a home and a decade of love, laughter and friendship. Norma passed on April 28, 2024.

David was a hardworking man and in his early years he was employed by Warner Brothers in Malone. He then went on to work at Chicago Pneumatic in Utica, Allied Chemical in Solvay and at Raymond Johnson in Ilion. Lastly, David was employed by the Village of Ilion Board of Light Commission, retiring in 1995 as Supervisor of Engineering and Maintenance after 24 years of service.

As a man of his community, David was involved with various local organizations. One which was particularly close to his heart was the Ilion Moose Lodge 1010, which he joined in February of 1969. In that time he served as the Publicity Chairman and Civic Affairs Chairman. In 1971 he joined the Moose Legion #60 and served as the Legion Activities Chairman, Local Legion of Moose President, Hiawatha Legion #60 Deputy Herder, Lodge Treasurer, Prelate, Junior Governor, Lodge Governor (4 Terms), Junior Past Governor and now Past Governor. He served as the Chairman of Central New York’s Fellowship Council, receiving his Fellowship Degree on August 10, 1975 and the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in Mooseheart, Illinois on May 23, 1987.

David was also involved in the Ilion Knights of Columbus (2nd Degree) and the Sacred Heart Council 518, as well as holding life membership in the Crowley Barnum Post 25 American Legion in Mohawk. He was of the Catholic faith and a longtime parishioner of Annunciation Church in Ilion.

David is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Donald Greig; his sons and daughter-in-law, Brian and Nora Beth Lamica and Scott Lamica; his six grandchildren, Amy Nunneker, Erich Greig, Andrew Lamica, Aaron Lamica, Zachary Lamica and Mathew Lamica; his 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was predeceased by his parents, wives and siblings, Margaret J. Taylor, Lester O. Lamica, Robert J. Lamica, Emery O. Lamica (KIA WWII), Bernard J. Lamica, Earl E. Lamica, Carlton W. Lamica and Stanley L. Lamica.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours for David on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 4:00PM – 6:00PM at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location at 4309 Acme Road, Ilion, NY (315) 895-7722.

David’s funeral service will commence on Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024 at 10:30AM at the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Procession will follow to Armory Hill Cemetery where David’s earthly remains will be laid to rest with military honors.
