David L. Hoffman

ILION – David L. Hoffman, age 81, of E. North St. , Ilion , passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, after a brief illness.

He was born on May 5, 1936, in Marion , Iowa , the son of Lawrence and Blanche (Cox) Hoffman.  David was a veteran serving in the US Marines and US Army.  He was a helicopter door gunner and flew 250 combat missions.  Mr. Hoffman received numerous commendations and medals.  On May 28, 1976, he was married to Linda Paulus in Mohawk.  David was employed as a foreman for the DPW at the Village of Ilion for 18 years.  He attended the Church of the Annunciation and was a life member of the DAV and a life member of the Marine Corps League.  David enjoyed his time with his family and in his early years enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He loved to travel and was an avid Yankee fan and liked watching sports games.

Surviving family members include his beloved wife of 41 years, Linda; his cherished daughter, Andrea Hitchcock and her husband, Eric, of Ilion; his brothers, Stephen “Steve” Hoffman and his wife, Nancy, Dennis Hoffman and his wife, MaryAnn, all of Ilion, and Michael Hoffman and his wife, Patty, of NC; several nieces, including Julie Jensen and Kayla Johnson; several nephews, including Michael Jensen and his wife, Sharon; several great-nieces and great-nephews, including Robert Jensen; several cousins; and his sister-in-law, Tina Dunn and her husband, Michael, of New Hartford.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Kocher; his brothers, Bill and Tom Hoffman; his nephew, Richard Kocher; and his sister-in-law, Pattie Jensen.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018, from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St. , Ilion .

The Marine Corps League service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.

David’s Funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours at the funeral home with Deacon James Bower, officiating.  Spring burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery , Ilion .
