IN LOVING MEMORY
ILION – Mr. Daniel M. Curtin, age 88, of Ilion, New York, passed away peacefully in his home on April 4th, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born November 13th, 1937, in Utica New York, the son of Edward and Marcella McGuiggan Curtin. He moved from Utica to the Sauquoit area in his teens with his brother Jerry. He worked on farms in his youth and always enjoyed being close to the land. It was during that time he met Phyllis.
He married Phyllis Timian on July 8th, 1961, at St. Patrick’s Church in Clayville. They were married for over 54 years until Phyllis’s sudden passing on June 9th, 2015. Dan and Phyllis settled in Ilion, New York, where they raised their children and built a life together. Dan worked at Remington Arms for over thirty years on the assembly line where he became known for his skill as an assembler as well as his sense of humor and appreciation for shenanigans. He was a hard worker who appreciated the toil of the common man and understood its importance. He enjoyed working on his land, playing pitch, winning on his scratch tickets and having a cold Old Mill.
He is survived by his daughter Colleen Curtin and her partner Andy Duchnycz of New Hartford NY, son in law Martin Murray of Ilion NY, and daughter Sheila Yang and her husband David Yang of Swampscott, MA, grandchildren Rachael Duchnycz, Andrea Sladewski and husband Phillip Slawdewski, William Murray, Benjamin Murray, Daniel Murray and wife Summer Thompson, David Yang and Brody Yang, great-grandchildren Gavin Troski, Eliza and Iris Murray, in-laws Arnold Timian of Dolgeville, Gifford Timian of Sauquoit, Beverly Timian of Sauquoit, Kenneth and JoAnn Timian of Chambersburg PA and Dorothy (Dot) Curtin of Deerfield NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers John (Jack), James (Jimmy), Jerry (his twin), William, his wife Phyllis T. Curtin and daughter Maureen Murray.
Family and friends are invited to a Calling hour from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM and all will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd, Ilion, New York. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clayville, New York immediately following services.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Ronnie James Dio Cancer Fund. The fund is working with UCLA Dental School to find early diagnosis of cancer using saliva. All donations go directly to research.
