Dana James Brewer

MOHAWK - Lt. Col. Dana James Brewer (RET), of Mohawk, New York, passed away at the age of 67 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Seneca Falls, New York to Vernon and Barbara (Van Galder) Brewer, Dana was one of nine children. A graduate of Mynderse Academy (1973), he earned two associate degrees from Herkimer County Community College (1984 and 1985) and then his bachelor’s degree from Excelsior College (2003). Dana spent over 30 years serving in the United States Army and the New York Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was employed until his passing with Deployed Resources. He also spent 20 years working for the Herkimer ARC and spent a few years teaching at Herkimer BOCES.
In 1982, Dana married the love of his life, Jean Ford and they spent over 40 years together. They had three boys, Carl, Drew and Sean and later welcomed a daughter, Rebecka. Dana loved running, coaching his kids and grandkids in sports and helping his community in any way it needed. He spent a lot of time in the woods hunting with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his in-laws, Marvin and Lois Ford; and his beloved sister-in-law, Mary Ford.
He is survived by his wife; children; and daughter in law, Samantha. He also leaves behind siblings, Bill (Mary Kay), Sharon (Jimmy Carter), Vernon, Steven, Theresa (Bob White), Carol (Steve Langdon), Lauren (Don Baylor) and Bobi Ann (Larry Bellstedt). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Azayiah, Dylan, Aaliyah and Ethan; along with dozens of nieces and nephews. There was also a special place in his heart for dogs like Bear, Harley and Zeke.
Calling hours will be held at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral home, on Acme Road, in Frankfort, NY, on Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the American Cancer Society, 430 Court St., Utica, NY 13502, or Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413, in his name.
Dana’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors.
