Congetta M. Smith

EAST HERKIMER – Mrs. Congetta M. Smith, age 93, and a longtime resident of East Herkimer, New York, passed away on April 6, 2024, at Wynn Hospital, in Utica, where she received loving care.

She was born on September 9, 1930, in Little Falls, New York, a daughter of the late Valentino and Mary (Malagisi) Natarelli. She received her education in Little Falls school system. On May 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to James G. Smith, at St. Joseph’s Church, in Little Falls, a blessed union of over 65 years. Jim passed away on July 11, 2021. The family will continue to cherish many wonderful memories of boating, swimming and fishing, on family vacations, at Piseco Lake. She will be dearly missed.

Connie was a beloved mother that gave her heart to the well-being of her family. Her activeness and transparency embedded a shining light upon her children and grandchildren. She was a kind soul and our memories include her active participation as a home room mother, a cub scout leader, an accomplished seamstress, talented at ceramics and a love of quilting.

She is survived by her beloved family, her son, James M. Smith, of East Herkimer; her daughter, Mariann Smith, of California; her sister-in-law, Sheila Hall (Scott), of Ilion; her brother-in-law, Bruce Smith, of Herkimer; her cherished grandchildren, Holden Smith, of East Herkimer and Tiffany Sanborn (James), of New Hampshire; great-grandchildren, Everly and Carter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Connie was predeceased by her parents, Valentino and Mary; her infant brother, John and her brother, John F. Natarelli; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Arthur and Grace; her brothers-in-law, Harry Smith and Wayne Smith; a grandson, William Smith; and her daughter-in-law, Marsha Mays Smith.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York and at 12:00 NOON, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 219 North Bellinger Street, in Herkimer, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and attend the Funeral Services to follow.
