Mr. Clifford Charles Gibbons 101 a resident of Valley Health Services, Herkimer since November 2002 and formerly of Dolgeville, died Thursday June 4, 2009 at the nursing home. He was born in Rhode Island on September 20, 1907 the son of Walter and Mamie (Hopkins) Gibbons. His marriage to the former Madeline Hayward took place on November 9, 1939 in Utica, New York. Mrs. Gibbons predeceased him on January 13, 1979. The couple first resided in Ft. Plain, New York before coming to the Dolgeville area in 1945. Cliff was employed by the former Adirondack Bat Company of Dolgeville for several years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church of Dolgeville, where he would serve as an usher on Sundays, and assist with many of the church functions. He personally enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader. He will also be remembered by his determination and ability to over come the difficulty for him to walk. He enjoyed his personal scooter that took him around the village of Dolgeville for many years. He is survived by a son and his wife William and Denise Gibbons of Little Falls, A Brother Everett Gibbons of Rhode Island and a Sister Grace Kowalski also of Rhode Island, his grandchildren William Gibbons Jr., Melissa Gibbons, and Clifford C. Gibbons II, his great Grandchildren Taylor, Roxanne and Jackie, and a Great Great Granddaughter Jasmine, also several Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his many Brother and Sisters. Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday June 11, 2009 at 4 PM in the Dolgeville Cemetery. There are NO Calling Hours.
