ILION - Charles "Chuck" J. Earl, age 81, of Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.



He was born on August 28, 1932, in Herkimer, the son of Paul and Jeanette (DesRosiers) Earl, and attended Ilion schools. Chuck was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the US Navy. In May, 1957, he was married to Linda Gail Schueler at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion. She died on June 13, 1996. He later married Patricia Murphy who died several years ago. Chuck was a professional fire fighter at the Village of Ilion Fire Dept. for thirty years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion Elks Lodge #1444 and the Ilion Knights of Columbus #518.



Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Kevin Stevens, of Rexford, NY; his son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Susan Earl, of Ilion; three grandchildren, Erin Earl and Charles and Cailyn Stevens; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Robert Pierson, of Rochester, Nancy and Angelo Semeraro, of Seattle, Washington, and Marilyn and Alex Rakowski, of Ithaca, NY; his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Joyce Earl, of Ilion; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.



Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2014, at the Church of the Annunciation, West St., Ilion, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Spring burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.



Calling hours are Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion.



The Ilion Elks Lodge #1444 ritual service will be held 5:30 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2014, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Ilion Ambulance Fund, Central Fire Station, Ilion, NY 13357. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
