ILION - Mr. Charles E. "Chuck" Cowell, age 88, formerly of Hoefler Ave. and London Towers, Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Harris Hospice Unit of the Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.



Chuck was born on January 6, 1927, the son of the late Charles and Helen Marie (Jenkinson) Cowell. He was raised and educated in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, graduating from Point Pleasant High School. Upon completion of his schooling, Charles enlisted with the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. Duty called once again during the Korean War and once again, Charles made his nation proud, serving in the United States Air Force. On June 7, 1952, Chuck was married to the former Mary E. Goggin in Holland Patent, NY. The two shared almost 54 years together, until Mary's passing on June 6, 2006. A hardworking man, Chuck spent his career as a bartender for various restaurants throughout the Mohawk Valley for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1990. Chuck was a parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion.



Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Brandano and her husband, Patrick, of Deerfield Beach, Florida; his sons and daughter-in-law, Charles E. Cowell, III, of Brooklyn, NY, and Daniel Cowell and his wife, MaryAnn, of Charlotte, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Chuck was predeceased by three sisters, Helen Williams, Florence Haller and Ethel Brower.



Friends and relatives are invited to attend Chuck's funeral service, which will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, July 25, 2015, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home's newly reopened home at 102 West St., Ilion, and at 10:30 AM from the Church of the Annunciation, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery where Chuck will be laid to rest beside his wife, Mary.



Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, July 24, 2015, from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the funeral home at 102 West St., Ilion.
