Mrs. Cecilia M. (McCarthy) Barbuto, age 97, formerly of Churchill St., passed away on Tuesday evening, April 12, 2005. Her passing occurred in Van Allen's Nursing Home, Little Falls. She was born on February 11, 1908 in Little Falls, a daughter of the late Michael and Annie O'Brien McCarthy and was educated in St. Mary's Academy and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing, Amsterdam. She was a lifelong resident of Little Falls. On June 29, 1942, she was united in marriage at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer, with Joseph C. Barbuto. Cecilia's uncle, the Rev. Daniel McCarthy, officiated the ceremony. The couple enjoyed a blessed union of 26 years until the passing of Mr. Barbuto on May 30, 1969. Her last professional employment was with Little Falls Hospital where she was a nursing supervisor, retiring after 44 years of dedicated and loyal service to many patients. She was a faithful communicant of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls and will be dearly missed by her family. Survivors include a niece; Janet M. Thrower of New Tazewell, TN and a nephew: Edmund A. McCarthy of Ilion. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother: the Hon. Edmund A. McCarthy who passed away on Jan. 18, 1992. There will be no public visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will commence at 11 am on Monday, May 2, 2005 from Holy Family Parish, corner of E. Main and John Streets, Little Falls. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Joseph.
