Catherine Palombo

Catherine I. Palombo, 91, formerly of Herkimer, Ilion and Frankfort, passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, in Falmouth, Mass., where her daughter Joanne resides. Mrs. Palombo was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Westmoreland County, Pa., daughter of Igicatius and Antonia (Pragle) Golobich. On June 20, 1936, she was united in marriage to Joseph G. Palombo in Pittsburgh, Pa., a blessed union of 44 years until Mr. Palombo's passing June 16, 1980. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. Mrs. Palombo was an avid bingo player. She enjoyed dancing, especially the polka, liked arts and crafts, and made afghans and lap blankets for the patients and residents of the Ilion Hospital and Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. She was especially proud of her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Joanne Perry of Centerville, Mass., and Nancy Centolella of Utica; two sons, George Palombo of Syracuse and Dr. Thomas Palombo of North Carolina; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. There are no public calling hours. Interment and graveside services will be held in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, at a later date and time to be announced. All arrangements were prearranged and entrusted to the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion.
