Mrs. Carrie M. (Caruso) Scalise, 82, of Herkimer, wife of the late Joseph A. Scalise Sr., passed away on Thursday morning, January 8, 2004, at St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born on April 11, 1921, in Frankfort, the daughter of the late Philip and Frances (Daly) Caruso and was educated in Frankfort schools. She joined in marriage with Joseph A. Scalise Sr. on July 25, 1942, at St. Peter & Paul Church, Frankfort, a loving union of 43 years. Mr. Scalise passed away on November 11, 1995. She had worked for several years with Folts Homes in Herkimer and retired from the Masonic Home in Utica as a housekeeper. She was a communicant of the Church of Saints Anthony & Joseph in Herkimer. She was also a former member of the Women of the Moose, Ilion. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all her children, including Terry Virkler and her husband, Rich, of Herkimer, Joseph Scalise and his wife, Connie, of Herkimer, Michael Scalise and wife, Patty, of Herkimer, Ronald Scalise and wife, Mamie, of Frankfort, and Eddie Scalise and wife, Kathy, of Frankfort; a son-in-law, Joseph Tubia of Herkimer; brothers, Pat Caruso, Anthony Caruso and wife, Carol, James Caruso and wife, Phyllis, and Joseph Caruso, all of Frankfort; sisters, Phyllis Young, Mary Kipper and husband, Frank, Lizzy Tangorra and husband, Philip, and Rosemary Coppola and husband, Chuck, all of Frankfort; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Sharon Ann Tubia; a sister, Theresa; and brothers, Ross, George, Michael and John. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning, January 10, at 9 a.m. at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, and at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street, Herkimer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Robert Shinos, pastor. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-8 p.m. Special thanks is offered to St. Luke's Healthcare, including the dialysis unit; Rural Metro; Ilion Ambulance; Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, including second floor (Clara and staff) along with their OT and PT departments; and St. Elizabeth Medical Center for compassion shown.
