ST. JOHNSVILLE- Caroline E. Hayes, of Hough St., entered into eternal rest, on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2023, with her loving family at her side. Caroline was known by her family with great affection as Mother, Gob, Gigi and Grandma.
She was born at East Creek, September 17, 1932, to the late Walter and Elizabeth (Sleezer) Davis. Caroline was united in marriage to John L. Hayes, Jr., on December 30, 1950. The couple would have celebrated a loving union of 60 years.
Caroline was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star and of the Grace Congregational Church, where she held many positions for many years showing her love for her church and its congregation.
Caroline loved family time, bowling and golf and lived her life to its fullest. She retired from the St. Johnsville School System as a teacher’s aide. In later years she enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds and sqirrels in her back yard.
Caroline was predeceased by her husband, John L; her son, John W.; and her six siblings.
Survivors include her beloved family: her daughters, Amy Beard (Sam Hill), of Gloversville and Nanette Zink (Ed), of Walnutport, PA; her son, Peter Hayes (Paula) of Queensbury; daughter-in-law, Pamela, of Fultonville; her grandchildren, Larry Darling (Sandy), Patrick Darling (Erica), Christopher Zink (Maria), Carrie John, Nikki, Dina, Jennifer, Patty, Bobby and Edward; her great-granddaughters, Aspen Johnston (Michael), Addison, AJ, Ashley, Reese, Parker, Piper, Elliott, Amelia, Connor and Terra.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. A Funeral Prayer Service will begin at 5:00 p.m., after calling hours, at the funeral home. Spring interment will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
Donations in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
