Carol "Me" A. Matteson, 41, of 13 English St., Ilion, formerly of 197 E. North St., Ilion, died Friday, April 29, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 16, 1964, in Utica, the daughter of Joanne (Aldine) Matteson and Richard Matteson. She attended UFA and graduated from Teller Training Academy in California. At one time, Carol was employed in the deli department at the Great American Store in Ilion. She later worked as a barmaid at Crossways Tavern in Ilion. Carol liked to write poems, one of which, entitled "Three Leaves," was published. She also enjoyed watching "Bonanza" TV show every day and loved to read books. Survivors include her son, Daniel Mark Matteson; her mother, Joanne Matteson of Utica; her father, Richard Matteson of Clayville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dawn and Kevin Suhadolnik of Shady Hills, Fla., Edith "Dede" Matteson and Don Lander of Ilion; two brothers, Brian Scott Matteson of Utica and John Eric Matteson of Chadwicks; her fianc?, John Salvo of Ilion; special aunt and uncle, Roberta and Herb Amberg of Utica; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, her best friend, Carol Perry of Ilion, and many, many other friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the Applegate and Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Father Anthony Barratt, pastor of the Church of the Annunciation, officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the EMTs at Kunkel Ambulance and MOVAC for all of their efforts to help Carol. Memorial contributions may be made directly to the family in Carol's memory.
