Carl A. Cotton Sr.

April 6, 1942 — April 11, 2025

CEDARVILLE - Carl A. Cotton Sr, age 83, of Cedarville, passed away peacefully, on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at home with family by his side.

Carl was born April 6th, 1942, in Ilion, NY and graduated from Mohawk Central School. He spent his childhood living in Columbia Center, NY. Carl met and married his wife Janet Cotton on July 24th, 1979. Janet passed on February 8th, 2022. During their 42 years of marriage, they shared raising four children from previous marriages, and two children they created together. Carl loved all of his children deeply and was a proud grandfather.

Carl has committed his life to his family, always being present at all life events. Carl was also known to drop what he was doing when the family called for help, day or night. Carl was very involved in his community, volunteering for Cedarville Fire Department for over 40 years. You would always catch him cooking up Fish Fries, and making sure the Coleslaw was prepared just right.

Just as family and community played pivotal roles, Carl’s faith was equally as important. Carl spent his Sundays attending the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church, worshipping and giving back to the lord.

Carl was a true family-oriented outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping with his wife and children. Having countless cook outs at their camp in Cold Brook. Carl also enjoyed hunting and teaching his children how to hunt. During the off seasons from camping and hunting, Carl enjoyed family game nights. You would often see Carl, Janet, family, and friends competing in tabletop games. Mexican Train night in their household was like a Super Bowl Sunday, anything goes competition.

Carl is survived by his six children, many grandchildren: Carl Cotton Jr and his daughter Brianna. Christine combs and her husband Doug, and their sons Darryll Combs and Micheal Combs. Calvin Cotton and his wife Laura, their children Calvin James Cotton, Ashley Cummings, Johnny Phillips III, Rachel Phillips, and Ryan Davis. Nicole Rose and her husband Richard, and their children Alex Rose and Elaina Rose. Shawn Cotton. Matthew Cotton and his wife LeeAnn, and their children Dylan Ellis and Andrew Fralick. Carl is also survived by his brother Jim Cotton, and his wife Nancy. Carl had several great grandchildren, brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, and several other nieces and nephews, all of which he cared for equally.
