Mrs. Blanche L. Mertha, most currently residing at 104 N. Washington St., Herkimer went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, April 26, 2003 at Little Falls Hospital. Mrs. Mertha was born on June 1, 1919 in Akron, NY, a daughter of the late Claude T. and Florence (White) Fox. She received her education in Batavia, NY. June 25, 1938 marked the beginning of a blessed and devoted union of 60 years when Mrs. Mertha was united in marriage with her husband, William L. Mertha at the Methodist Church in Batavia. Mr. Mertha passed away on April 13, 1999. Mr. and Mrs. Mertha raised their family in Herkimer and resided in San Diego, CA., for 22 years until moving back to Herkimer in 1990. Blanche was last employed as manager of the Walker Scott Department Store in San Diego, California. She was of the Methodist Faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. She was also a member of the Myrtle Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Herkimer. Blanche spent many years being a willing care-giver to her husbands mother as well as to her husband. Blessed with a wonderful personality she touched the lives of many. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones and forever remembered as a kind and considerate person who people immediately took a liking to. Mrs. Mertha leaves her beloved son and daughter in law, William W. Mertha and wife Theresa of Herkimer, a sister, Doris Miklinski of Akron, a brother and sister in law, Alfred and Phyllis Fox of Dania, FL., a brother and sister in law, Roger and LaDorna Fox of Olean, NY, five cherished grandchildren and five adored great grandchildren, a sister in law, Jennie Moore of Oskosh, WI. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Aulph of Batavia. In honoring Mrs. Mertha's wishes cremation has taken place under the direction of the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home of Herkimer. Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects to the Mertha Family on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. A memorial service will commence at 8 pm in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Wrightson Tongue, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer/Little Falls, officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Remembrances in honor of Mrs. Mertha may be made to a charity of one's choice, envelopes may be obtained at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home. The family offers their gratitude to the staff of the Little Falls Hospital for their compassion during this difficult time. Members of the Myrtle Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. to conduct their service.
