ILION - Betty F. Lonis, age 90, of 113 Elm St., Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at St Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after a long illness, with her family by her side.
She was born on March 9, 1921, in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Leon C. and Frances (Getman) Frankish, and was a graduate of Ilion High School. On March 11, 1943, she was married to David E. Lonis, in Ilion, and they spent sixty-eight wonderful years together. Mrs. Lonis was a clerk employed at the Ilion Water Dept. for over twenty years. She enjoyed her numerous gardens over the years.
Survivors include her husband, David E.; two sons, David N., of Utica, and Mark E., of Ilion; five grandchildren, Kelly L. Lonis and Dana Alberico, of Syracuse, David J. Lonis, of Washington, DC, Ryan M. Lonis and fiance´e, Hillary J. Bard, of Utica, Stephanie Lonis, of Florida, and Michael Lonis, of Florida; two great-grandchildren, Maddox and Jeslyn; and best lifelong friends, Florence Baker and Judy Steele.
She was predeceased by her son, John "Jack" Lonis.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. John Bassett, Rector of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Ilion, officiating. Interment will be at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.
Calling hours are Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, prior to the funeral home service.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home.
The Lonis family has entrusted all funeral arrangements and supervision to Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
