Berton J. McGowan, Jr. 80, a longtime Little Falls resident passed away on Wednesday June 27, 2007 at the Siegenthaler Center, New Hartford, NY. He was born September 30, 1926 in Little Falls the son of the late Berton J. McGowan Sr., and Louise (Esintrout) McGowan, and was educated in Little Falls schools. He was married to Alice J. Sweet, who preceded him in death on October 12, 1990. Berton was last employed at the former Fleet Bank in Little Falls. A man dedicated to his family, Berton centered his life around his family by working two to three jobs at one time to keep his family comfortable. In his leisure he enjoyed hunting. Survivors include four sons, James McGowan and wife Marsha of St. Johnsville, Donald McGowan and wife Lisa of Florida, John McGowan and wife Patricia of Little Falls, and David McGowan and wife Roseann of Gloversville, a daughter, Dawn Marie Ackroyd and husband Bill of New Hampshire, two brothers, Robert McGowan and wife Nancy of Little Falls, and Edward McGowan of Dolgeville, two sisters, Joan Congdon and husband Don of Little Falls, and Edna Doxtader of Dolgeville, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Alice McGowan, brothers, James & John McGowan and sisters, Gertrude Vacco and Sister Margaret McGowan, CSJ. In keeping with Berton?s wishes, there are no calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to attend graveside services on Saturday July 7, 2007 at 10:00 am at Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls, NY with Reverend Joseph Chamberlin, pastor of Assembly of God Church in Little Falls officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to Siegenthaler Center, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.
