HERKIMER – Bernice A. (Bernie) Barbuto, 78, of Newport, New York, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, in Utica, New York.

She was born on September 28, 1943, in Herkimer and Graduated from Herkimer High School with the ‘Class of 1961.’ Bernie worked for Attorney Carl G. Scalise until 2003. She also worked part time at Gems along the Mohawk, enjoying the benefits of visiting with the many customers, until 2010. More recently, she volunteered as a Daycare Assistant at her daughter’s daycare where she was affectionately known as Bit. Bit loved the children and their families as if they were her own.

She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Moody and son-in-law, Mike, of Newport, NY; Grandsons, Troy (wife Alex) Moody, of Manhattan, NY and Ryan (Kendall Cirella) Moody, of Rochester, NY; her sisters, Laura Dinehart, of Ilion and Marie (Tim) Edick, of St. Johnsville; her nieces, Lisa(Edgar) Schloop, Marianne Clemons (Mike Sardina) and Joanna (Walter) Filipczuk; nephew, Michael (Katina) Dinehart; as well as many precious grand-nieces, nephews, cousins and her aunt, Carol Farrington.

Her very special family friends are inclusive to Kristie Collis Griffith, Francine Santucci and John and Luann Garlock.

Bernie was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Helen (Farrington) Barbuto; and grand-nieces, Christina Schloop and Leah Filipczuk.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 5-7 p.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York. The service will also be conducted at the funeral home following the calling hours from 7:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., on Thursday. Her spring interment Burial Service at Middleville Cemetery will take place this spring, at the discretion of her family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in loving memory of Bernice Barbuto, to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home for this purpose.
