ILION - Bernard Dale VanHatten, 75, of Ilion, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Wynn Hospital, in Utica.
He was born on September 22, 1948, in Utica, NY, a son of the late Bernard and Anna (Dunn) VanHatten. He was a 1966 graduate of Whitesboro Central Schools. On February 6, 1970, at the Annunciation Church in Ilion, he was united in marriage to Christine Joy.
He was a proud member of the military, serving his country in the Army Reserves from 1968 until 1994. Over his career as a PCB Designer, he worked for several different companies, ultimately retiring from PAR Logistics Management Systems.
Dale was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, skeet shooting and fishing. He was also a lifelong baseball fan, maintaining his allegiance to the Boston Red Sox, despite being surrounded by all New York Yankees fans.
He is remembered by his family and friends as hardworking, honest and loyal, who would give the shirt off his back. He loved spending his free time at the Ilion Fish & Game Club and going out to breakfast on the weekends with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Christine, of Ilion; his daughter, Holly VanHatten (Anthony Corelli), of Tampa, FL; his siblings; his sister, Deborah Colver (David Colver), of Morrisonville, NY; and a brother, Thomas VanHatten, of Marcy.
He was predeceased by his son, Ryan VanHatten; and his brother, Douglas VanHatten.
There will be no calling hours or Funeral Services. He will be laid to rest in a private burial at Armory Hill Cemetery, in Ilion, NY. Family and friends will be invited to a Celebration of Life in late spring.
