Beatrice E. (Betty) Helmer, 86 a former St. Johnsville resident, passed away on Saturday September 11, 2004 at McKedree Village Nursing Home, Hermitage, Tennesee. She was born June 9, 1918 in New York City the daughter of the late Martin Edwin & Salna Gauthier (Littlepage) Couillou. Betty graduated from St. Mary?s Academy in Little Falls, and graduated from Lee Edwards College in Asheville, NC. Her marriage to Cletus Helmer took place on November 7, 1937 at St. Patrick?s Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of marriage of 50 years, until the passing of Mr. Helmer on June 25, 1988. Mrs. Helmer was a bookkeeper for the former Reed Tissue in Little Falls. Survivors include a daughter; Bettyann Tompson and husband Lee Brideau of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a son, Richard C. Helmer and wife Patricia of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister, Diane Brandsema and husband Walter of East North Port, NY; her loving grandchildren, Wendy Helmer, Kim Cooper, Deborah Cooper, Cory Tompson, Brooke Robinson, Shannon Tompson, Stacey Matuk & Paige Jackson, 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 16, 2004 at 8:30 am from the Smith ? Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, NY and at 9:00 am from St. Patrick?s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow at West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday September 15, 2004 from 5-8 pm.
