ILION – Barbara J. Janis, age 78, of Silver St., Ilion, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with her family by her side.
She was born on November 7, 1943, in Utica, the daughter of Quentin and Gladys (Kennedy) Wasmund and graduated from St. Francis School, Utica. Barbara married James “Jim” Janis, in August, 1970, at St. Joseph/St. Patrick’s Church, Utica. At one time, she was employed as a case examiner, at Oneida Co. Dept. of Social Services, in Utica. She attended St. Joseph/St. Patrick’s Church, Utica. Barbara was a loving and devoted mother and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers and was an avid dog lover, having 3 dogs herself, namely, Carly, Teddy and Willie.
Surviving family members include her husband, Jim; her daughter, Erin Dibble and her husband, Justin; her sons, Michael Janis and his wife, Erica, Brian Janis and his wife, Gina, Paul Janis and his love, Melissa Bailey; 7 grandchildren, Brittney Janis, Max Janis, Zackery Janis, Ryan Janis, Christopher Janis, Grayson Dibble and Logan Dibble; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her grandson, Joshua Janis.
A Memorial Service will be held privately, at the convenience of the family, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion, NY. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, E. Herkimer, NY.
