Barbara C. Conroy, of Salisbury Center, NY, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023 at the age of 69 following a brief illness. Her passing occurred at the MVHS St. Elizabeth Campus with her loving husband at her side.
Born on April 16, 1954 in Newark, NJ, Barbara was the daughter of the late Sidney and Ruth (Hilf) Gold. She graduated from Hillside High School in Hillside, NJ in 1972. She then went on to graduate from the M.A.M.S. School of Dental Hygiene in 1974.
In 1975, Barbara met her future husband, Steve Conroy. In 1979, they moved to Dolgeville, NY and opened Conroy’s Café. They were married in 1980 and enjoyed forty-three years together. During that time, Barb worked for Little Falls Hospital in the X-Ray Department, Daniel Green’s customer service department and finally at the Walmart Vision Center in Herkimer as an optician, a position from which she retired in 2002.
Barb enjoyed watching television, walking in her yard, photography, going out to dinner and taking rides in her convertible.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Conroy, of Salisbury Center; a brother, Jerry Gold of McKinleyville, CA; her aunt, Thelma “Temi” Wertheim of Monroe Township, NJ; many favorite cousins, nieces and a nephew. She also leaves her two beloved cats, Lucky and Windy.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Sidney Gold; and by a daughter, Julianna Ruth.
In keeping with Barbara’s wishes, there will be no formal services. She would like to be remembered by the people she knew and loved for the way that she was. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to your local ambulance corps or humane society.
