ILION – Barbara A. Brewer, age 76, of Ilion, NY, passed away peacefully, on Friday, December 1, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Barbara was born on April 29, 1947, in Rome, NY. She was the daughter of Oliver and Mildred (Smith) Thayer. She attended Oriskany Central School and graduated with the class of 1965. She later attended and graduated from Utica School of Beauty.
Barbara owned and operated her own Beauty Salon, Hair Creations by Barb, for many years and later opened and operated Barbara Ann’s Country Gifts.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, William G. Brewer; her children and stepchildren, Thomas M. and Lisa Johnson, of Frankfort, NY, Leslie and Gary Jubar, of Greenville, TN., Cathy Brewer, of Oneida, NY, Charlene Johnson, of Fort Myers, FL, William Johnson, of Mohawk, NY, Jason and Michele Brewer, of Mohawk, NY; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kayla Murphy, Liam and Mason, and Kyle and Jessica Elthorp, Ashlyn, Heather and Joshua English, Chloe and Charlee, Daniel Jubar, Ashley Jubar, Alexis Johnson, Jacob Miner, Riley Brewer, Chase Brewer, Nicole Geter, Brady Johnson, and Emerson Johnson; her siblings, Edward and LouAnn Thayer, Susan Elia, Brenda and Mark Bigelow, and Ronald and Missy Thayer; her sister-in-law, Gloria Polley; brother-in-law, Scott and Joan Byard; and sisters-in-law, Mary Thayer and Carol Thayer.
She was predeceased by her parents, Oliver Thayer and Mildred Ulmer; her stepfather, Paul Ulmer; her brothers, William and Thomas Thayer; her father-in-law, Grant E. Brewer; and mother-in-law, Jean Byard.
The family would like to thank the nurses of the ICU Department, at St. E’s, the nurses at the Sitrin Rehabilitation Center, the nurses and doctors of the 5th floor and ICU, at Wynn Hospital for their care and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Tatjana Mondom for their emotional support and guidance for Barbara and her family.
In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a Funeral Service immediately following, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger facility, at 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, NY. Interment will follow, at the North Columbia Cemetery.
The family cordially invites family and friends to celebrate Barbara’s life, following interment, at the Mohawk American Legion, Main St., Mohawk, NY.
