MOHAWK: Arthur J. Rice, Jr., age 86, a life long Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 7, 2016 at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Little Falls. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his family by his side.
Born in Ilion on April 8, 1930, Arthur was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Lawrence) Rice, Sr. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of VanHornsville High School and continued his education at Utica Business School. He then enlisted into the United States Army, honorably serving his country in the Korean Conflict. Arthur was united in marriage to Sharon Ashworth Bailey in 2000; the couple sharing a union of 16 years.
Arthur was once employed for General Electric of Utica as an accountant/buyer. He was a member of the Mohawk American Legion Post and in his spare time he loved watching the New York Mets. He was an avid golfer, enjoying all sports, especially NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Michelle Dumas and husband Andy of Jefferson, NY and his daughter Carol. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Alexa Ruth, Kara Grace; great-grandchildren and cousins.
Arthur's wishes were to have no public calling hours. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Mohawk Cemetery, Columbia Street, Mohawk, NY. Military Honors will be accorded.
Those wishing to make a contribution in Arthur's memory are asked to consider Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls; envelopes will be available at the Graveside Service.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Harry J. and Kevin E. Enea of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315)823-2424.
