Mr. Anthony P. "Tony" Zambri, age 78, of Herkimer, beloved husband of Emily (Sammarco) Zambri went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, June 7, 2003 in St. Luke's Hospital, New Hartford after an extended illness. Tony was surrounded by his loving family and friends when he quietly entered into eternal rest. Mr. Zambri was born on July 3, 1924 in Little Falls, a son of the late Joseph and Incornata (Morra) Zambri. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School and extended his education by attending Purdue University. On June 1, 1946 he was united in Holy Matrimony with the former Emily Sammarco in Gloversville at the Mt. Carmel Church; throughout their 57 years of marriage the couple shared a close and endearing relationship which has brought both of them great and fulfilling happiness. Tony was a decorated member of the United States Navy. He enlisted on December 7, 1942 and was honorably discharged on March 4, 1946. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with three stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He served on the USS Mitchell Ship Destroyer Escort Ship. He was last employed as a mechanical engineer with the General Electric Company retiring in 1984 after 31 years of dedicated service. Tony was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. He was a member of the Herkimer Elk's Lodge #1439. Mr. Zambri was a kind and loving husband and parent who provided his wife, children and grandchildren with guidance, support and the incomparable pleasure of his company. He was truly a loving and dedicated family man. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He leaves to cherish his love and carry on his legacy his loving wife, Emily of Herkimer, a son Joseph Zambri and wife Patricia of E. Syracuse, two daughters, Kathy Cunningham and husband Alan of Guilderland, and Susan Mott and husband Dennis of Schenectady, a sister Stella Slopnick of Little Falls, an uncle, Rocco Zambri and wife Antoinette, six cherished grandchildren, Michael, Vanessa and Stephen Zambri, Christopher and Matthew Cunningham and Andrew Mott. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. The Zambri family will receive relatives and friends at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer on Monday (today) from 5- 8 p.m. Tony's funeral will commence at 8:30 am on Tuesday morning, June 10, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor at 9 am. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where Tony will be laid to rest and full military honors will be accorded. The Herkimer VFW will form an honor guard.
