MOHAWK - Thomas “Tom” Lawrence, age 93, of Hillview Drive in Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning November 12, 2024 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
Tom was born on January 21, 1931, in St. Johnsville, NY. He was the son of the late Thomas Lawrence and Angie Capece. He was predeceased by his only sibling, Marie Lawrence.
Tom loved to be out in the community. He casually knew so many community members, and they would offer him cheerful helloes and friendly smiles whenever they saw him. He made friends wherever he went. Tom liked to go out to eat, especially Crazy Otto’s and Denny’s. He loved getting a cup of coffee, and Stewart’s was the place for that. He liked to regularly play scratch off Lotto tickets and really enjoyed it when he won.
Tom was a snappy dresser and always wanted to look his best, which usually included a pair of white shoes, and, at times, a snazzy driving cap. He enjoyed a good episode of Lawrence Welk and going to church was very important to him. Tom knew what he wanted, and he let his wishes be known, including telling everyone that when he passed away, he wanted to be laid out in a purple suit. That wish has been fulfilled.
Tom had so many people in his life who truly loved him. He made their lives better by just having known him. Tom will be sadly missed but always remembered with love and affection. His passing is made a little easier knowing he had a long and happy life, and that he was surrounded by those who loved him when he left this world.
Tom is survived by his loving ARC Herkimer family, especially his loved ones at his Hillview Drive home in Mohawk, his Day Program at S. Washington St. in Herkimer, and his special family on the Arc Herkimer Guardianship Committee.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home at 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315) 866-1011, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, with a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., and a Service of Remembrance to follow at 11:00am.
Final interment will take place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11:00AM, at St. Johnsville Cemetery on Center Street in St. Johnsville (behind the high school) where Tom will be laid to rest with his family.
Tom’s final wishes were pre-arranged and entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at
