ST. JOHNSVILLE - Carol M. Phillips, born in Amsterdam, NY, on February 21, 1948, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, at The Nancy Dowd Hospice Home, Mountain Valley Hospice, in Gloversville, New York.
Carol was known for her feisty and loving spirit, which left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She is survived by the father of her children: Carl Ovitt Sr. of Johnstown, NY. Her children Carl Ovitt Jr. (Lucinda) of Ephratah, NY; Cristen Hoffman (Smitty) of Ephratah, NY; and Chad Ovitt of Gloversville, NY. She also leaves behind her cherished granddaughter Callen Rumrill (Richard Jr.) of Oppenheim, NY, and two great-grandsons, Richard Rumrill III and Hunter Rumrill. Carol had a total of 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Carol is also survived by her sisters: Karen Boyd of Yarmouth Port, MA; Susan Miller (Ron) of Amsterdam, NY; Joan Simeone (Dominick) of Hagaman, NY; Barbara Tautznik (Peter) of Gloversville, NY; and Gail Carusone (John) of Broadalbin, NY. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father James A. Miller Sr. of Perth NY, her mother Rena Frederick Dersch of Broadalbin NY, brother James A. Miller Jr. of Broadalbin NY, and her husband’s Glenn H. Chandler (d. 2003) of St. Johnsville, NY and James G. Phillips (d.2008) of Perth, NY.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on January 25, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at The Pine Tree Rifle Club located at 419 Johnson Avenue Extension in Gloversville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to the RGL Fire Department. Contributions can be sent to RGL c/o Mark Souza at 551 East Road, St. Johnsville, NY 13452.
Carol’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May her legacy bring comfort to those who loved her.
