Steven A. Connell

UTICA – Steven “Steve” A. Connell, age 62, of Coventry Ave., Utica, passed away unexpectedly, on Sat., Aug. 12, 2023, with his wife Heather, by his side.

He was born on Dec. 15, 1960, in Mansfield, CT, the son of John and Phyllis (Robucci) Connell and graduated from E.O. Storrs High School, in 1978. Steve married Heather Crossett, on May 26, 2007, at the Ilion United Methodist Church, with Pastor Robert Wollaber, officiating. Mr. Connell was employed as a heavy equipment operator, at the Dept. of Public Works, for the City of Utica, for 22 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Steve was a champion soccer player, an avid football fan and enjoyed hunting.

Surviving family members include his wife, Heather; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Louise and Gary Crossett, of Ilion; his nephew; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, John Connell, Jr.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Steve’s Celebration of Life and Prayer Service, at 12 noon, Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2023, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location, at 102 West St., Ilion, NY (315-895-7722).

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407, or the American Heart Association, 125 Business Park Drive, Ste 106, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Steve’s service arrangements and supervision are entrusted to a family friend and Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
