Mr. Roderick O. “Rod” Usher, Sr, age 81, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening, September 6, 2023, in the privacy and comfort of his home.
Born in Olmsted Falls, Ohio on May 28, 1942, Roderick was the son of the late Ralph Eugene and Virginia Marie (Ziegler) Usher. He grew up in Milan, Ohio before relocating permanently to New York. As a young man, Rod proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, receiving his honorable discharge on September 10, 1965.
In 1968, Rod was wed to the former Susan Hall and together they spent 55 years in a loving union. In Susan’s words, her husband, Rod, used to take her on long country drives and they’d get ice cream. He was a Republican all the way. He used to have a black cat that he put on the back of his motorcycle with him. He rode all over with his bike. He loved to garden and watch the plants grow.
When he was a kid, he used to work at a dairy bar. He then worked for Chicago Pneumatic in Utica until he retired.
Rod loved to read James Patterson books, which he received from his daughter, Kathy, and son-in-law, Steve, in Colorado. He loved his boys, Rod, Jr. and John and he adored his grandkids, Zachury and Nichelle. He also leaves his sisters, Laura Tobak and Karen. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Jean Corwin and Cheryl Shank, and his son, Roderick O. Usher, Jr.
In keeping with Rod’s wishes, his family will gather in a private ceremony to bid their farewells. His earthly remains will be laid to rest with his son in Mt. View Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be accorded.
The Usher family has entrusted the care of their husband and father to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at
