EAST HERKIMER - Harold R. "Bob" Bailey, age 75, of East Herkimer, passed away, on November 12, 2024.
Bob was born on December 28, 1948, the son of the late Clinton B. and A. Irene (Smith) Bailey. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1967 and attended Cobleskill Ag. and Tech. and Herkimer County Community College. On February 6, 1971, Bob married the love of his life Frances R. Speer, a blessed union of 50 years, until her passing, on June 6, 2021. They had a son, Joseph J. (Carolyn) Bailey, of Webster, MA; a daughter, Anna Irene (Heidi Arnott) Bailey, of Stillwater, MN; three grandchildren, Jessica L. Bailey, of Riverview, FL and J J and Sawyer Bailey of Stillwater, MN. Bob also leaves two sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia (John) Carleton, of Citrus Heights, CA and Marianne (Tim) Schanthal, of Fairview Heights, IL; and sister-in-law, Rebecca (Becky) Bailey, of Smyrna, Fl. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Clinton J. Bailey; and twin sister and brother-in-law, Julia L. and Glen Kroft.
Bob spent many years in retail furniture sales and lastly worked for the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office, for 23 years, retiring in 2012, as a Corrections Sergeant. He was a proud 40- year-member of the East Herkimer Vol. Fire Department having served in many positions and he was extremely proud to have served as Chief of the Department. He served several terms as the President of the Herkimer County Deputy Sheriff’s Association. Bob was a former Secretary/Treasurer of the East Herkimer Fire Commission, a member and former treasurer of the Town of Herkimer Republican Committee, the Herkimer County Republican Committee, the Herkimer County Volunteer Fireman’s Assoc., the Herkimer County Chief’s Association and was a former member and Secretary of the Herkimer County Fire Advisory Board.
Bob’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday morning, November 23, 2024, at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer and will consist of a Ritualistic Service, offered by his fellow brethren members of the East Herkimer Fire Department, accompanied by the Ladies Auxiliary. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on this day at the funeral home, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. To honor Bob’s wishes, we will be asking members of the Fire department and Sheriff’s Department to join us in attendance. Then, the interment will take place in the family plot, at Rural Park Cemetery, in Inghams Mills.
It is the wish of the family that memorial contributions in honor of Bob be considered to the East Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department, 193 Main Road, East Herkimer, New York 13350. Envelopes will be available at the Enea Family Funeral Home for this purpose.
