HERKIMER - It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Francis (“Frankie J”) John Talarico, on August 28, 2023. Frank was born on October 9, 1936, to Susan and John F. Talarico. He graduated from Herkimer High School, in 1954. He attended St. Lawrence University but returned home to help build the family business, John Talarico Contracting Corporation, into a successful business. His hard work and tenacity guided him to begin and grow other business ventures in the Mohawk Valley including the St. Johnsville Quarry, Shumaker Mountain and AmperSand & Gravel.
Frank was most proud of his family. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and devoted wife, Donna (Burrell), of 65 years, whom he cherished and with whom he found great comfort. He also leaves behind a beloved son, Dr. John Talarico; and daughter, Cheryl Hughes. Frank felt much pride in watching both of his children grow up. He and Donna enjoyed spending winters with family in Myrtle Beach, or at camp in the summer. He cherished holiday family get-togethers. He leaves behind his brother, John S. Talarico (wife, Jane, deceased); a loyal son-in-law, Scott Hughes, who was like a son to him and brought Frank comfort and laughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Frank enjoyed sports of all kinds including baseball, softball, tennis, racquetball and golf. His friends will remember his honesty and competitiveness. He will also be remembered amongst family and friends for his sense of humor and his generosity to others. Frank was respected and admired by many and liked by all who met him. Frank was appreciative of his loyal friend, Jody, who was always there anytime he was needed.
The Talarico family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Hospice. Their care and comfort for Frank was heartfelt. Some angels are on earth and they are called Hospice.
A Christian Burial Mass of Remembrance will be held at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, in Herkimer, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. There will be no calling hours. Graveside Services and entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Funeral Services have been entrusted to Kevin Enea and the Enea Family Funeral Home.
